Acupressure for Stress Management

The world can be a volatile place and stressors are everywhere. Whether the stress is caused by negative issues like problems at work, problems at home, relationship problems or positive issues like the birth of a child, an upcoming engagement, wedding or reunion, or even winning the lottery, stress can take its toll on you. Stress not only causes negative psychological effects, it releases hormones like adrenaline and cortisol that, over time, can cause physiological effects like hair loss, headaches, high blood pressure, heart disease, sleep loss and obesity, just to name a few. Fortunately, if you’re not a big fan of medications, you can actually use acupressure for stress management.

Acupressure for Stress Management

When using acupressure for stress management, the technique requires steady pressure to the acu-points using the thumb or fingers. The pressure should be maintained for anywhere from 30 seconds to two minutes. The following locations are the most effective acupressure points for stress management.

Acupressure Points for Stress Management

1. Base of the Skull

There are a total of three points that you can use that are located at the base of the skull. The first point is located at the base of the skull where the spine meets the skull. The other two points are used together. They are located at the area of the skull behind the ears and can be easily reached by interlocking your fingers behind your head and extending your thumbs downward.

2. The Third Eye Point

The Third Eye Point is located approximately two finger widths above where the bridge of the nose meets the skull.

3. The Shoulder Points

The shoulder points are located at the center of the shoulders, half-way between the base of the neck and end of the shoulders, just behind the tops of the shoulders. They are best accessed by crossing your arms across your chest and using the tips of your fingers to apply pressure.
