Being in good health is a precious gift that many of us take for granted. Some of us abuse our bodies to the point that we destroy this gift. Others still are doing okay but could be doing a lot more to be healthier—they are not at their optimal level of wellness, and we always want to get as close to that as possible. If you are interested in creating a healthier mind and body, here are some personal development tips that have helped me on my own personal development journey.
3 Great Personal Development Tips for Better Life
Meditation is the greatest from all personal development tips. Meditation is hands down the most valuable tool I have ever used in my self-improvement efforts. Gaining better control of our minds is vital not only for our mental health but our physical health as well; your state of mind plays a huge part in determining whether you will make the choices that support a healthy body, such as your diet and whether or not you decide to exercise regularly. It has also been shown to lower blood pressure and cause other beneficial changes in the body.
You will achieve better mental health through greater control of your mind, which we often let control us. By creating a greater awareness of your thoughts and feelings, you will learn to respond rather than react habitually. You will observe what is going on within and this will help you figure out why you feel the way you feel and why you think the way you think. Once you have figured out the problem, you can work on cultivating solutions.
Much of our stress in life comes not from what is happening around us but how we are perceiving it; meditation helps create a perspective that is less distressing. This practice also helps us truly realize the fleeting nature of our thoughts and feelings—when we really grasp this, it becomes much easier to deal with the negative ones because we know it will pass; knowing it is temporary can keep us from making the bad choices we often make to get the feelings to go away as quickly as possible.
2. Getting Clear on Your ‘’Why’’
Everything we want has a reason behind it—no matter what the reason, at the deepest core is the desire to be happy. That is what we all want. No matter what we desire, it is for one reason—we believe it will create greater happiness in our lives. So, if you have developed a desire to have a healthier mind and body, it is because you believe it will bring you something you are currently lacking, something that will make you feel good.
Getting crystal clear on these motivators is number two on my personal development tips list. It´s the key to making any change in life, especially when these changes involve breaking decades-old habits and ways of thinking.
You need to really examine why you want to make these changes, why you want to be healthier. You need to go deep. List your reasons and then ask yourself why you want all of these things and keep going until you cannot go any deeper. If you want to be healthier, why? If you want to be a better parent to your children, why? The deeper you go into your reasons, the more you will discover your core desires and values, the things that are most important to you, the type of person you most want to be; once you get clear on all of these things, you will not be able to imagine living a life where they are not realized.
3. Limit Negative Influences in Your Life
The information we are taking in around us has a huge effect on our health and you want to limit the negativity as much as possible. There is a lot of bad stuff going on in the world and many people think that not paying attention to it makes you an ill-informed citizen.
All these terrible things are happening and you MUST absorb every bit of information about it. Why? How does you knowing about all of these things make any difference? What are you doing with the information? If you are like most people, absolutely nothing; your life continues to go on as normal. The way I see it, the best thing we can do for the world is work on making our little corner of it as good as possible; we work on helping who we can and becoming a happy person who will be more concerned about the happiness of others and do nice things to facilitate that.
Examine relationships in your life more closely and pay attention to how people make you feel, how they make you act. Limit time with those who bring out the worst in you rather than the best. If not talking to people is not an option, at least try to avoid certain topics of conversation that do not make you feel good or have to cause you to listen to the other person’s complaining, bitterness or doom and gloom.
