Getting away from the stress of your day may not always mean leaving the office. If you are an important figure in your department, you may need to stick around in case something happens. 1. Take a Deep Breathe
Deep breathing is the easiest way to relax while at work. Taking a deep breath can do a lot for your mental state. When you even take a single deep breathe, you are clearing your mind of all the frustration and stress that you are holding in. For maximum relaxation, take several deep breaths in succession. You will feel much better in just 60 seconds.
2. Grab A Stress Ball To Squeeze
Taking a few minutes to squeeze your stress ball while at work can relieve the tension in your whole body. You are also giving yourself a mental outlet for your stress and frustration. It is much better to take your frustration out on a ball as opposed to your employees.
3. Check Your Personal Email Account
Take a second to check your personal email. There is nothing wrong with taking a quick break to check your mail or your phone. You can still get your work done even if you are taking a few minutes for yourself.
4. Have a Laugh
Have a joke book either on your computer or somewhere on your desk or have a moment of fun with your colleagues. Having the chance to laugh can make you forget where you are for a minute. It may even give you a good opening line when you talk to a new employee or client later in the week. Humor can make you realize that work is not a life or death thing. Mistakes can happen without the whole operation falling to the ground.
5. Put On Your Headphones
Listening to music is another great way to relax while at work. You will forget the outside world just by putting your headphones on. Taking a few minutes to get outside of the world of office politics will do wonders for you. When you are done, you will have the energy to get through all the phone calls and other tasks that need to get done that day.
6. Take A Drink Of Water
Stress can be caused by not having enough to eat or drink. Have a quick drink and snack handy somewhere near your desk. This will hopefully allow you to get your body back into a normal balance. If you don’t have any water or food to bring, make a stop in to the cafeteria or vending machine before you start your day. It is amazing how awful we can feel when dehydrated or hungry.
It may seem difficult to relax while at work. However, you can do so many things with the objects that you have around you. Simply breathing can be the best thing for you followed by a quick drink of water. Forgetting where you are for a minute or two can make the rest of your day go by so much better.
