Sleeping is a refreshing and very important aspect of our lives. Why we sleep or why we need so many hours scientists are not really sure. They do however believe that sleep enables our body to recover from the stresses of everyday life. Some people tend to fall asleep effortlessly and anywhere whilst others must plan things a bit more strategically. Conducive to a nice, angelic slumber where we seamlessly fall from the wakeful state into sleep requires that we only have peaceful thoughts before bed. This is in fact why people who are burdened with stress and negative thoughts are unable to fall asleep until they are exhausted from being awake.

How to Have Only Peaceful Thoughts Before Bed
1. Shutting Off the Negative Thoughts
We have already mentioned that it is imperative to have a clear minded, unfettered of all those heavy, stressful and tiresome thoughts which have our mind working all day. Sleep is our brains time to recuperate and we must give our body and mind what it needs if we want it to function properly.
Let’s make an analogy between a computer and the human mind. A computer with too many files and program open slows down, blocks and does not function as efficiently. To get it back to working efficiently, we need to shut down those programs and close a few files. This is exactly what we need to do with our minds before we sleep.

2. Write Your Thoughts Down
Consider your problems and write them down on a piece of paper. Before bed just empty out your mind of negative thoughts by writing them down and putting them away. Of course, they will not be gone by writing them but you can at least temporarily stop thinking about and have only peaceful thoughts before bed.
3. Avoid Tension or Fear
You would be amazed how susceptible the human mind can be. To have peaceful thoughts before bed, avoid watching films or reading books that create tension or fear. The images or feelings you experience might resurface at that crucial moment when you are drifting off to la la land and jolt you back awake. They could, of course, also come out in your dreams making your night and valued rest a rather unpleasant experience.

Exercise is also a good way of helping with sleep. The release of endorphins during exercise will help reduce stress and are conducing towards banishing those awful thoughts that manifest whilst lying in bed waiting for the sandman.
5. Listen to Music
Listen to music to have peaceful thoughts before bed. Music can evoke positivity and feelings of happiness in our heads which are conducive to having peaceful thoughts. Serenity and relaxation much override any other thought or emotion at bed time.
Aromatherapy: have you ever tried a few drops of chamomile oil, lavender oil or lemon oil on your pillow? These oils sooth the mind and when the mind is rested and free of those thoughts which normally fetter it, positive and happy thoughts can move.
7. Use Visualization
Use your imagination and conjure images of those places which you associate with serenity. If need be get a smart phone application for sleep. Often these will be recordings of natures wonderful sounds which help us relax; the rustle of wind in the trees, the sounds on waves on the sand, drops of rain on a window and many, many more. They can be really effective in helping drive peaceful thoughts into your head before bed.
Read something to have peaceful thoughts before bed. If you really cannot think happy thoughts then shift the focus of your mind to ready. Tire your eyes by reading something that is easy to follow, even reading something boring but straining yourself to read it will cause your eyelids to start drooping before not too long.
Peaceful thoughts, a relaxed body, a comfortable sleeping environment, a comfortable bed and a position that you are comfortable lying down or sleeping in are all factors which work simultaneously together to help you get a good night’s sleep. Disrupt or remove one of these and you might not be able to get the rest you deserve. Peaceful thoughts will not come into your head if your mattress is hard and you are irritated by your partner’s snoring. Ensure you have a perfect balance of all these factors.
