As the amount of work keeps piling up every single day, it is also getting more difficult to find time to relax and drive away all the stress. Furthermore, finding ways to relax without getting bored has also become a great problem. A stressed person’s attention keeps getting stolen by work hence, many times, he tends to forget and ignore his hobbies. At other times, he just can’t leave work undone and totally shuts himself from all the fun.
However, there are a lot of little ways you can do to relax without getting bored. You just probably did the wrong thing and ended up bored, so here is a list of the little things you can do to keep some fun and at the same time relax.
How To Relax Without Getting Bored
Watch anime and/or read manga
Don’t just go and re-watch your favorite TV series for the nigth time.
Don’t go picking a rather complex historical novel either.
Why not try something new or something simpler for once? Go rack up your brother’s collection of anime. The 2D world can actually be more fun and interesting than you have previously thought. There are even anime out there that can be pretty relaxing. They show nothing but slices of everyday life and how one can funnily or seriously deal with them.
They don’t have very complex plots that would twist your brain cells out of its wits but they are interesting enough to keep your eyes glued on the screen and hence, keep the boredom away. Moreover, they only come in short 20-30-minute episodes so it’ll be over before you know it. But it wouldn’t be over! You had fun, you were able to relax without getting bored, so you’d be wanting more.
For reading, give children’s books a try. Children’s books don’t necessarily mean those picture books meant for kindergarten like The Ugly Duckling and whatnot. Try those that look something like the Harry Potter series. Howl’s Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones is one good example.
Maybe you could even try some chick lit if the fantasy world is not up to par with your taste. Manga is also a good way to relax without getting bored. Those Japanese comics are very fun to read. They also come in short 15-40 page chapters and most of them are just art and drawings so it will be a very easy read.
Like anime, they also come in various genres – from romantic comedy, school life, to action, post-apocalyptic and sci-fi – so you can always pick what you like first.
The important thing here is that you would try something new.
New things help you to relax without getting bored.
Visit your grandparents
Having tea and delicious cakes with elder people can be pretty relaxing. It might be because of the refreshing air of retirement but nonetheless when you hang out with them, the atmosphere can be pretty light and mellow. It does not hurt to listen to stories of the old times either. It can be very fascinating and sometimes you could even hear some interesting family secrets that no one has ever told you about.
It’s also nice to talk about current events and the latest developments in technology with older people. They can express several strong opinions that you might think are baseless and dumb but never boring.
At the end of the day, you will be infected by that light and mellow mood and just might end up feeling better.
Learn a new language
‘Studying is not fun and relaxing. It’s boring,’ that might be playing across your mind right now, but learning a new language is different. Imagine yourself watching a French film and you understand all the words even without those English subtitles. That is fun! Plus, you can brag to your friends that you somehow knew how to speak French.
There are several smartphone applications nowadays that can let you study foreign languages without really studying so much. Try them out. They also provide very short quizzes to test you and answering them correctly makes you even want to learn more. It’s like a happy feeling reward system. They are designed to be similar to games so you will never get bored. You would always want to level up, and leveling up means you will learn more. Oh, how fun!
Clean your house
You might think that cleaning your house is not relaxing either; that it is just some bothersome work that can be left for your mom or the cleaning lady to do. However, cleaning your house can actually help you release some of that piled up stress.
Cleaning does not really require too much thinking unlike learning a new language.
It mostly requires physical activity and not much brain power so you can empty your mind as you also empty your trash. The manual labor can also get you some good exercise. And good exercise can eventually make you think faster and your thoughts clearer.
If you think you’re too lazy to even get started, why not look for something you’ve lost among that pile of trashy looking things. Look for the wallet that your friend gave you last Christmas even if it only contains a five dollar bill, or that birthday card your precious little sister made you two months ago, or that photo of your crush that you secretly took while he’s not looking.
Look for those little lost and misplaced things as you clean your house.
You’ll never get bored and a sense of accomplishment that will lull you to a relaxing good night’s sleep is waiting for you at the end.
Go stroll in the park
Take your dog out for a walk or maybe ride your bike or you can just simply walk aimlessly. It does not matter really however you do it as long as you go out in the sun and have some fresh air.
Breathe. Breathe in the lovely scent of spring before the hot and humid summer takes it all away. Watch the children play and have their stupid little quarrels, and in the end innocently play with one another again as if nothing ever happened.
There’s plenty of things to do in the park so it is easy to relax without getting bored. Just don’t go putting so much thought into it.
Let things happen as they do.
Have some coffee instead and watch as time goes by, as lovers walk past, as the sun sets in the west, and as the sky turns into a relaxing orange.
Hang around with a friend
The keyword here is “hang around” and “friend.”
You don’t have to call everyone in your troop. A trustworthy friend or two who has nothing better to do is more than enough. You guys don’t have to do something particularly. You don’t have to play video games all day or trash talk your pesky bosses. You don’t have to go camping in the mountains or go secluding yourselves in the countryside. You don’t have to go far or elsewhere either.
Just go about the entire day lazing around at your place or at theirs. Order some pizza, talk about what life really is, talk about what happened in Vegas, talk about the most useless things, and don’t ever mind the time to pass you by.
It is more fun to do these kinds of things with somebody anyway rather than cooping yourself the entire time in your room. You can also drag your friend to do together all the things previously stated in this article. You can relax without getting bored. And if you do ever get bored, just ask your friends to come up with your own list of things to do to relax without getting bored. And then do them.
Do something you’ve never done before
Those little things you thought you’d like to do someday, go and start doing them now.
Start with the easiest things you can do at home. Maybe you’d like to learn how to skate or some skateboard tricks. Maybe you’d like to learn how to ride a bike or play soccer. Maybe you’d like to try baking a cake or coming up with your own milk shake recipe. They’re pretty easy to do and you could even ask Google if you need some help. You can even satisfy your hunger and cravings and get a sense of accomplishment in the end.
As long as you do the things you want, you can always relax without getting bored. It’s fun and interesting so it makes you forget all about that stress from work or school. And if you chase and forget all the stressful times, you get to relax.
That is why you shouldn’t also forget about your hobbies and interests. They are the real answer on how to relax without getting bored. Plus, always take a break too. Life is not only about work, work, money, and more work. What’s the use of all that work and all that hard earned money if you never get to have any fun?
