- Sleeping on the neck for a long time in the same position.

2. Poor sleeping habits
Hard or unsupportive mattresses and pillows are associated with neck pain and stiffness. They cause poor positioning of the spinal cord. This makes the head and the back to inflict pressure on the neck during sleep. Sleeping on such a mattress for a long period can cause pain and stiffness of the neck.
